Some of the world’s oldest recorded texts and longest-held beliefs are those attached to gemstones. Used throughout known history as talismans, oracles, amulets, charms, and totems (and fabulous decoration) gemstones have always ignited a love and reverence that has prompted association with the divine, and suggested otherworldly powers. At Macklowe Gallery, our love of gems has inspired us to delve into the rich history of precious stones, a history we always aim to share in the hopes that it will enhance an appreciation for this superb material.
